Hi,

I have PVCS Version manager at my organization as well as at my client organization. In order to avoid network access issues and since the project database is quite small, I though simplifying the Configuration management between me and client by just uploading entire PVCS DB via a ftp server to the client. Since there is a PVCS at my client organization, I expect the client to download the PVCS DB from the ftp server to his local drive and Open the database.

I ensured that the path map Client name between me and my client are the same. My Client was able to open the database on his PVCS desktop client but when he tries to view the file (get file) he gets an error "This operation failed because split archives must be accessed through a file server"

But when I try to open the copy of the this PVCS DB from my local drive I don't get this error.

Is there something missing. Appreciate any response (s) to this issue.

Thanks,
Dinesh

What version are both PVCS setups installed with?
Are they both setup with "File Server"?...
(It would appear that your installation may be but Client quite possibly isn't)

Depending on the VM release showing the message, the error indicates that the Revision path directory is missing for the secondary Path Map (or is pointing to the wrong directory), or that the archives paths being used do not match the Client Name of the Path Map that has both the Revision path and the Project DB path on it.

Copy both the Project DB path and the Revision path directories from server 1 to server 2, then create a Path Map on server 2 with an identical Client Name, pointing to the Project DB path and Revision path directories that the data was copied to. (These directories are allowed to be different, but the Client Name is not.)

    Kind regards,

    - Richard.
